What is Syphon Filter?
Syphon Filter is a series of third-person action-adventure games that debuted in 1999 for the original PlayStation. It has become one of Sony's most recognizable game brands spanning several sequels and appearances on the PS2 and PlayStation Portable. In the game universe, Syphon Filter is a genetically-programmable virus which served as the focus for the first four games. Each title generally revolves around the character Gabriel Logan, a member of the secret "Agency."
The full series includes:
Syphon Filter (PlayStation, 1999)
Syphon Filter 2 (PlayStation, 2000)
Syphon Filter 3 (PlayStation, 2001)
Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain (PlayStation 2, 2004)
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PlayStation Portable, 2006)
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (PlayStation Portable, 2007)
Syphon Filter: Combat Ops (PlayStation Network, PSP, 2007)
How are the games played?
All of them follow the structure of objective-based gameplay, where the player must complete tasks within certain parameters. The early PS1 trilogy mostly involved single-player control for the story missions and combined action and stealth sequences. In the fourth game, Omega Strain, online cooperative elements were introduced. The PSP games have returned to a single player campaign, but they include deathmatch features for online users.
What is the history of Syphon Filter Central?
SFC was created by a Syphon Filter fan known as Gabe, unofficially recognized around here as President for Life, and it became almost the only known SF-related website when the rest were short-lived pages posted on free webhosting domains. Gabe kept his site updated and started the Syphon Filter Central Forums to make a community that has carried on with bringing the website back.

All of the Syphon Filter games have been developed by Sony Bend, a division of Sony Computer Entertainment America named after the company's location in Bend, Oregon. Sony Bend was formerly a separate company called Eidetic, Inc., with personnel that included co-founder Mark Blank, known for being among the developers of the text adventure Zork, and John Garvin, the Creative Director responsible for the series' story and characters. The first Syphon Filter games were published by 989 Studios, but are now the property of SCEA.
